Charismatic Larry Laoretti has led a very different life to many golfers looking to win acclaim and success on the golfing scene. He has carved a name for himself on the greens of some of the world's finest golf clubs due to his flamboyant and entertaining style of play. The Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship 2011 is proud to introduce Larry Laoretti.

After turning professional in 1960 at the age of 21, Larry enjoyed a career playing in events including the US PGA in 1966 where he made the final round and was paired with the legendary Jack Nicklaus. He continued to play the professional circuit while enjoying working at various golf clubs across America.

Once he turned 50 he decided to take up the challenge of the US Senior Tour (now known as The Champions Tour) and three years later recorded the biggest win of his professional career - the US Senior Open. No-one had expected it but the great showman Laoretti had been hitting the middle of the fairways perfectly and landing his ball neatly on the greens throughout the tournament. He fended off the likes of Nicklaus and Lee Trevino to secure the prestigious title at the Bethlehem Golf Club, Pennsylvannia, finishing with a four shot lead over fellow competitor Jim Colbert.

He is well-known for travelling from tournament to tournament in the most unlikely of vehicles, an enormous 38 foot mobile home. Wherever Larry is seen it is likely that he will be clasping a cigar in his mouth, an iconic image which now remains synonymous with the golfing legend. The Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship is delighted to welcome Larry to compete in this year's event and he will certainly bring flamboyance and charisma to the championship, having featured in over 340 Champions Tour events and wowing crowds across the USA!
